Then I found the Spirit Card Center, a virtual postcard website.
Your message is the one you write - there are no pre-written cards. Character space is limited, however, so be sure to check the preview before sending.
You also get to choose from a wide variety of artists who contribute their paintings and visions to the site. And depending on how involved you want to be in creating the card, you can either leave the page background, text colors, and postcard colors (surrounding the artwork) the way they are, or you can "color" them, yourself - you even get to choose from a number of stamps to stick in the upper right hand corner.
The cards are free, but donations to keep the site going are accepted.
The site is great for people who enjoy having a creative influence on the cards they send, and it's also handy if you simply can't find the perfect card elsewhere. (For me, it's now the only place I'll go to send an e-card, unless I want an animated monkey or cartoon birthday cake.)
Have a look, and enjoy!

Here is a sample card I just created using the work of Camilo Villaneuva as the art to accompany the message (if the writing looks blurry on your screen, don't worry - it does on mine, too...it's the shrink effect, and I'm no graphics or Photoshop genius):
